Section through a mine site across its lifeOne longitudinal section through a hard-rock mine site, left to right through the stages of its life: baseline wells and a drill rig on undisturbed ground; a permit boundary with the proposed facility dashed and a wetland; the operating mine with an open pit benched into the hill, a haul truck, a dewatering well, waste rock, a headframe over a shaft to a drift, and the plant; a legacy adit draining to treatment above a groundwater plume captured by two wells; the closed site with a pit lake and the dump regraded under a three-layer cover; revegetated ground with compliance wells over a thirty-year line; and the old capped tailings facility with one bay reopened by an excavator for remining. Below the surface: overburden, weathered rock, bedrock, the water table drawn down under the pit, and the orebody as an inferred lens.
